ALL ABOUT YEAR 1
Welcome to the Year One page, here we hope you find everything you need to know about Year One at Hambleton Primary Academy.
In Year One we follow the Key Skills Curriculum which is a very creative approach based on the National Curriculum. We ensure every lesson meets the needs of the whole class and endeavour that each child succeeds in their bronze, silver or gold challenges, they love this whole school approach and can’t wait to move up to the next challenge in their learning.
Here you can see the year’s overview. We provide a broad and engaging curriculum which is based on the children’s interests and ways of learning and achieving the best.
The Year 1 Curriculum
Year 1 Children follow the phonics programme “Letters and Sounds” and our school reading scheme which centres on the Oxford Reading Tree- though not exclusively. They also use “Bug Club” (Active Learn) online. All Year 1 children have access to iPads and Laptops to further their learning in reading.
From our topic curriculum newsletters, the cross-curricular learning is evident and how much detail we delve into each topic to ensure a range of knowledge and new skills are taught to the children.
Progress is regularly monitored by myself and Mrs Wood, the Principal. After discussions with you as the parents, intervention is put in place to support the child as needed. We are inclusive and are always here to support your child grow and enjoy their learning as well as ensuring they are achieving the most at home too.
In Year 1 the children complete a statutory Phonics assessment in June, children are preparing for this all year with their daily Phonic sessions and it is made into a fun way of recognising 20 real and 20 non-real words.
Homework is set every Friday with one Bug Club comprehension activity, 5 spellings to learn to be tested the following Friday and a Maths challenge which the children can independently complete.
P.E is on a Wednesday afternoon, please make sure your child has the full and correct P.E in kit school. Coloured house t-shirts can be bought from our school office.
Keep your eye out on the school Facebook page for updated photos and information on our learning journey through Year One. We look forward to supporting and encouraging your child’s amazing learning this year. Miss Crayston and Mrs Rea
