The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum spans both Nursery and Reception in our school. This curriculum is statutory for all children in England. Nursery and Reception teachers plan together in order to provide continuous learning for the children. Children are assessed continually throughout lessons (they don’t generally realise this is happening; it isn’t pressured) and their progress is monitored by their class teacher and Mrs Wood, The Principal.
Nursery children begin working on the phonics programme “Letters and Sounds.” We begin by looking at the sounds that we can hear in our environment and progress onto learning about the sounds that the letters make. Nursery children enjoy our fun letters and sounds activities that include listening walks, sound bingo and guess the sound games. All Nursery children have access to IPads during the Nursery day.
Days spent in Nursery are filled with fun and exciting activities. During each session there are both focussed activities and activities within the continuous provision for the children to access. There are opportunities for the children to mark make within the different areas of our classroom. The children are encouraged to share their interests so that planning can be tailored to the children.
So far this term…
This half term we have covered a range of different topics. These include Roald Dahl’s The Giraffe the Pelly and Me which lead us onto the jungle. We have learnt about Harvest and currently have a vegetable farm shop in our role play area. Click here to see us in action!
