Welcome to The Early Years
In Reception we continue to work from EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) documentation. This is a statutory curriculum for all children in England and sets out clear goals (Early Learning Goals) which children aim to achieve by the end of Foundation Stage. We plan around children’s interests following their lead in the topics they want to learn about. We set a baseline assessment for all children in Reception using this to plan effectively for children’s next steps. Children enjoy showing us what they can do and are quick to celebrate success. We model resilience throughout the Foundation Stage encouraging children to take risks and accept new challenges using a play based approach. Lessons are planned to be engaging and fun and continue to be assessed daily. Progress is monitored by the class teacher and the principal Mrs Wood.
Reception Children follow the phonics programme “Letters and Sounds” and our school reading scheme which centres on the Oxford Reading Tree. All children in Reception have access to iPads please click here to see a list of some of the apps we use which can be downloaded on iPads at home.
So Far This Term…
This year the children have shown an interest in dinosaurs. We have kicked off the year looking at dinosaurs stories. Our class favourite is ‘The dinosaur that pooped a planet!”. Click here to see where our topic has taken us so far this half term. Have a look at the curriculum newsletter to see what we will be covering this half term.
We spend time developing prime areas (C&L, Personal Social and Emotional Development and PE) in order to prepare children to read, write and count. When children are confident in these areas we begin to plan for specific areas.
