Children in Year 1 follow our Key Skills Curriculum which is based on the National Curriculum but adapted to meet the needs of our children and provide as much enrichment as possible in terms of sport, music and the creative arts. Please see our curriculum overview on the “Curriculum” Tab at the top of our home page. Children are assessed continually throughout lessons (they don’t generally realise this is happening ; it isn’t pressured,) and their progress is monitored by their class teacher and Mrs Wood, the Principal. in Year 1 complete a statutory phonics assessment towards the end of the summer term.

Year 1 Children follow the phonics programme “Letters and Sounds” and our school reading scheme which centres on the Oxford Reading Tree- though not exclusively. They also use “Bug Club” (Active Learn,) online. All Year 1 children have access to iPads and Lap Tops to further their learning in reading.

Teachers in Year 1 and Year 2 plan together to share ideas, resources and visits.
