ALL ABOUT YEAR 5
Welcome to the Year Five page. Here we hope you find everything you need to know about Year Five at Hambleton Primary Academy.
In Year Five we follow the Key Skills Curriculum which is a very creative approach based on the National Curriculum which makes sure the children learn and develop skills appropriate for their year group. We ensure every lesson meets the needs of the whole class and endeavour that each child succeeds in their bronze, silver or gold challenges, they love this whole school approach and can’t wait to move up to the next challenge in their learning. We will be working hard to develop our existing skills as well as learning lots of new and exciting things this year too!
Throughout the year we will cover ‘Victorians’, ‘Grimm Tales’ and ‘Wish You Were Here’. We provide a broad and engaging curriculum which is based on the children’s interests and ways of learning which sees all children achieving the best. We ensure lessons are engaging and foster a love for learning.
This is our curriculum jigsaw for Year Five:
From our topic curriculum newsletters, the cross-curricular learning is evident and how much detail we delve into each topic to ensure a range of knowledge and new skills are taught to the children across Year 5.
Year Five is an important year regarding progression. As they transition into Year Six, the children need to develop a clear understanding of the wider Upper Key Stage Two Curriculum, which supports their knowledge for SATs in Year Six. However, we ensure all lessons are creative, engaging and challenging to prepare children for this. Progress is regularly monitored by myself and Mrs Wood, the headteacher. After discussions with you as the parents, intervention is put in place to support the child as needed. We are inclusive and are always here to support your child grow and enjoy their learning as well as ensuring they are achieving the most at home too.
Homework is set every Friday with 10 spellings to learn to be tested the following Friday morning and a times table challenge which the children can independently complete.
P.E is every Tuesday afternoon, please make sure your child comes to school in the full and correct P.E in kit school. Coloured house t-shirts can be bought from our school office.
Keep your eye out on the school Facebook page for updated photos and information on our learning journey through Year Five. We look forward to supporting and encouraging your child’s amazing learning this year. Mr Goldie and Mrs Allsworth. ?
